FRIDAY FOCUS #73

Hi Reader!

I'm trying something different this week. Please reply and tell me if you like this shorter version, or a full-length essay on one digital marketing concept.

We're finishing out the first week of 2023. How did we get here already?! Let's dig in.

5 Things Worth Your Focus This Week

How to Crush Your Content Marketing Goals in 2023.

A lot of marketing goals are going to get set this week, and most of them will get abandoned by the end of Q1. We’ve all been there before. So, I’m taking things a little more slowly and methodical this year.

I've been focusing my time on refining my system for getting them done. And this week, I'm going to show you how to set the right goals for your content—and execute them week after week.

The simple truth is that goals are worthless if you don’t have a workable plan to accomplish them. Choosing which goal only matters once you have a strong system in place.

Here are 7 crucial things you need to win in 2023.

2. 3 Boring Business Tasks That Bring Sexy Results

Matt Giovanisci runs a couple of online businesses, but got his entrepreneurial start in the pool cleaning business. Doesn't get much better than that right?

This article that on the 3 boring tasks he does every month is pure gold. Make sure you have similar systems set up for 2023. If you don’t, read this article and grab his free templates to start today.

3. How to Begin: Start Doing Something That Matters

This book by Michael Bungay Stanier might have been my favorite read in 2022—spend $10 on Amazon and order it today. The most important part of hitting your 2023 goals is choosing the best goal.

"First, Set a Worthy Goal. I’ll help you find and refine a goal that is Thrilling, Important, and Daunting. A Worthy Goal entwines ambition for yourself and for the world." – Michael Bungay Stanier

4. How David Beckham Earned $500 million On His LA Galaxy Contract

I love learning from interesting stories in sports—things move so fast, and there's quite a bit on the line (every game).

5. 20 Pieces of Advice for Marketers in 2023

Ross Simmonds is one of the sharpest minds in content marketing. And, he's also willing to share insights with the rest of us. Read this list and go follow him if you want to see an example of a humble, long-term content strategy that builds trust with an audience.

Recommended Tools & Training

Fathom Analytics – I can't get over how simple (and valuable) Fathom is for improving my website growth strategy. And, it's only just the beginning. It's very affordable, but here's $10 to start testing it this week. You can't reach your goals if you don't know where you stand right now.

Thanks for reading this week—I hope you and your family had a fantastic Christmas holiday.

I'll have some more concrete marketing goals to share with you next week—with a few ideas on the types of projects I have planned for the year. Let's go, 2023!

Thanks for reading, Reader! Have a great day 🌅

John
